What is LocalBuzz! and who is behind it?
LocalBuzz! is an online business directory founded by a small group of dedicated and enthusiastic online professionals. We are a small team of people who have been involved in online directories for over a decade who want to change the way things are done. We think there is a better way that the usual “business owners pay to be at the top at the expense of relevance to the user”.
So we started LocalBuzz! The idea is simple, … create a business directory where
- businesses can list for free,
- search results are based on relevance to the user’s query and not payment, and
- users can write reviews and guides for fellow users.
Why Use LocalBuzz!?
As a user if you want unbiased results to your search query, use LocalBuzz!. Or if you want to have your say or just add that favourite café of yours, you can do it on LocalBuzz!
As a business owner, if you would like to get more exposure and more leads which means more sales for free, LocalBuzz! fits the bill. Can’t ask for more than that.

Does it cost me anything to advertise?
No. It’s free to create a profile as a user or a business owner and it’s free to list your business.
Is LocalBuzz! really free?
Yes it is.
So how do you guys make money so you can continue to provide this free service?
We make sufficient revenue from placing appropriate and relevant ads on some of our pages. We have to pay the bills somehow so we think this is the best way for all concerned. You can, of course, decide to advertise with our advertising partners and appear in those ads as well, but that’s up to you and you don’t get any special treatment on our site if you do.
Oh, and by the way, we don’t sell data either, so if you find your data in some telemarketing list, we can say for a certainty that it didn’t come from us.
So how does it work?
Business owners, proprietors and marketers list their business(es) and include details such as location, description, products and services etc. Users can also list businesses they like. They can also write reviews and create lists of businesses (e.g. my favourite coffee houses) – we call these Guides.
All this content plus your help in telling people about us and your listing, helps generate traffic via your referrals and from search engines - real customers ready to make a purchase. (Let’s face it, no one hangs out on a directory just for fun, … well besides us that is). This generates leads to businesses listed on our site. So everyone is happy.
So please help us out and help your own business or your favourite business and submit a listing, write a review or create a guide to that list of favourite cafes you like to tell your friends about.
How can I make my business come up higher in the rankings?
Well you can’t pay us – its free for everyone. Our algorithm determines relevance to the user’s query to work out where you should come up. However, there are some simple things you can do like:
- If you have the choice of your business name or your trading name, pick the one that is most descriptive and that people would recognize (e.g. Abe’s Café is better than A.Z. Services Ltd).
- Make sure your strapline is descriptive, unambiguous and include, where possible, a keyword that a user is likely to use.
- Update your details and add content frequently as this boosts you to the top as we tend to favour the most recent information for our users.
- Be sure to encourage your customers to submit a review of your business as we tend to favour businesses with reviews over ones that don’t have any, all else being equal.
